The Volvo XC40 comes in five different trims. Each is powered by a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine displacing 2.0L which produces 247 horsepower mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With 247 horsepower on tap, the compact SUV is quite quick in a straight line, though it should still return over 30 mpg on the highway.
The most basic XC40 trim is dubbed the Core trim. Since the Volvo XC40 is still a bit of a luxury vehicle, basic amenities are pretty nice and include items such as a 9-inch display, smartphone integration, a park assist camera, LED headlights, SiriusXM satellite radio, a powered driver's seat with a memory function, heated front seats, 18-inch wheels and tinted windows.
The next step up is the Plus models which come in a Bright and Dark Theme which adds a sunroof, LED front fog lights, power front seats, leather seats, and a garage door opener.
The Ultra trims also comes in a Bright and Dark theme featuring 20-inch wheels, a premium 13 speaker sound system, adaptive cruise control, and a surround view camera.
Safety features across the lineup include parking sensors, an active lane departure warning system, forward and rear collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, a driver attention monitor, and a traffic sign recognition system.

The Volvo XC40 updates the Ultimate trim to the Ultra trim but otherwise carries over with minimal changes.
The Volvo XC40 is a compact luxury SUV competing with the likes of the BMW X1, Mercedes GLA and Audi Q3. While the Volvo XC40 has a price that might be smack dab in the middle of its competitors, Volvo has offered a unique way of "owning" the new XC40. For a monthly fee, people can "subscribe" to the compact SUV, paying for it on a monthly basis. Volvo claims that there is no long-term commitment, and that insurance and maintenance are included in that price, making it a pretty sweet deal for anyone who only needs a car for a couple of years and who doesn't want to deal with many of the traditional hassles of car ownership.
